Several emergency crews fought visible flames at a house in Pella early this morning. The Pella Police Department received a 911 call for a garage fire at 12:46 a.m. at 210 Independence Street, at the corner of Independence and Prairie. Pella Fire Department crews fought the fire until approximately 3 a.m., and Pella Community Ambulance also responded.

No injuries were reported and everyone inside at the time was able to get out safely. Pella Fire Chief Randy Bogaard says the fire started high in the garage and spread across the roof. He’s proud of the efforts of his crew, as they were able to prevent fire damage to the main living areas, but there is some water and smoke that impacted the structure and interior.

“Those kind, when they get that kind of a start, and when you get there and the flames are rolling out the roof and it’s moving quickly, your time is very limited as to when you can save something or not, and in this case we are very lucky and fortunate that the house is still there.”

The home is owned by David and Gretta Hackman, according to Marion County property records.
