Pella Christian Boys Track and Field 4th, Girls 5th at Tulip Time Relays

Making the short trip across town for Pella’s Tulip Time Relays, the Pella Christian boys track and field team claimed fourth place with 82 team points, while the Eagle girls finished in fifth place with 86 points. 

The Eagle boys had six top-three finishes in individual and relay events, and those included:

3200 Meter – Kaden Van Wyngarden (10:31.04) – 1st

100 Meter – Isaac Kacmarynski (11.49) – 2nd

Long Jump – Luke Nikkel (19’9”) – 2nd

400 Meter Hurdles – Peyton Ritzert (58.27) – 3rd

4×100 Meter Relay – Peyton Ritzert, Isaac Kacmarynski, Trevor Veenstra, Luke Nikkel (44.71) – 3rd

Sprint Medley Relay – Noah Nunnikhoven, Luke Nikkel, Isaac Kacmarynski, Brecken Ritzert (1:40.52) – 3rd

The Pella Christian girls had eight top-three finishes in the meet, including:

100 Meter – Meredith Van Wyk (13.06) – 1st

400 Meter – Bailey Vos (58.75) – 1st

High Jump – Cara Veenstra (5’2”) – 1st

4×400 Relay – Amaia Agre, Josie Settles, Anna DeBoef, and Bailey Vos (4:06.33) – 1st

Sprint Medley Relay – Amelia Boender, Anna DeBoef, Meredith Van Wyk, Bailey Vos (1:53.06) – 1st

800 Meter – Bailey Vos (2:28.46) – 2nd

4×100 Meter Relay – Chloe Nikkel, Anna DeBoef, Amelia Boender, Meredith Van Wyk (51.88) – 2nd

4×200 Meter Relay – Amelia Boender, Josie Settles, Chloe Nikkel, Amaia Agre (1:53.62) – 3rd

Eagles Girls Tennis Edges Grinnell, Boys Tennis Falls on the Road

The Class 1A #9 ranked Pella Christian girls tennis team edged Grinnell 6-5 Thursday night, while the boys tennis team fell to a good Grinnell squad 8-3. 

On Eagle Lane, the Class 1A #9 ranked Pella Christian girls extended their winning streak to five matches against the Tigers since 2019. The Eagles got wins in the #1 through #4 singles matches from Katy Roose, Claire Vander Molen, Sydney Van Arendonk, and Laurey Johnson. Pella Christian clinched the match with win at #1 and #2 doubles from the tandems of Roose / Van Arendonk and Vander Molen / Rachel Lanferman. With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 8-1 on the season.

At Grinnell, the Pella Christian boys lost to the Tigers for the third straight year. Three of the Eagles five losses in singles action came in third set 10-point tiebreakers. Toby Vander Molen was the lone winner in singles play, winning at #3 in three sets. The #1 doubles team of Shaun Bos and Isaac Natelborg won in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 11-9, and the #4 doubles tandem of Rhett Terpstra and Zeb Kanis added the last win with a 6-4, 6-3 decision. The Eagles dropped to 7-4 on the spring with the loss.

The Pella Christian girls are back in action Saturday in the Pella Invitational, while the boys tennis team is off until Tuesday when they compete at Chariton.

Pella Christian Boys Soccer Dominates Sigourney

The Class 1A #13 ranked Pella Christian boys soccer team put an end to their four-match losing streak Thursday, as they dominated Sigourney 7-0. 

Ethan Van Arendonk had a big game for the Eagles, scoring a hat trick plus, with four goals against the Cobras. Theo Hugen, Aiden Stoltz, and Camden Parker added the other three goals for Pella Christian on the night. Jack Fancher, Eric Mome, and Van Arendonk all contributed assists in the win, as the Eagles improved to 3-5 on the season.

After today’s match with Albia was canceled, the Pella Christian boys soccer team returns to the pitch on Monday against Pella on Eagle Lane.
