The Knoxville Rotary Club handed out scholarships to 14 students at their meeting held Wednesday.
Thirteen of the scholarship recipients were from Knoxville and one from Pleasantville. Each of the scholarships were for $500
Chairman of the Rotary Scholarship Committee, Dr. Larry Formanek, tells KNIA/KRLS News about the selection process, “We use a lot of different criteria, anywhere from grade point average to involvement in extracurricular activities, personal situations. We have several criteria that we go over and it varies year to year, so that’s why we have a committee that sits down. We meet and go over every single application to decide who is the best fit for the amount of money we have to give away.”
Formanek tells KNIA/KRLS News, over 40 students filled out applicants for the scholarships. This is an annual event and it is one of the major programs Rotary does.
