Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen tells KNIA/KRLS News where we stand with COVID, “It’s going to be there forever. It’s out there, it’s just like the flu, it’s going to be there and the things you hear a lot. But we’re not taking it as seriously as we did before, because a lot of us have been vaccinated and we’re protected a mild amount. But we can still get a milder version of COVID after we’ve been immunized. But when we give it to those folks over the age of 65, their reaction to COVID is a lot different than my reaction at age, whatever I am.”

Van Hulzen said as we get older our immune system drops. One of the ways our body fights is a fever. Our bodies can react differently to the COVID shots we receive.

She commented, COVID prevention starts with two vaccinations and then a booster shot every so often. As with any shot, move the arms to get the medicine out of the muscle into the body.

The CDC made some recent changes an additional booster for anyone over the age of 65 as long as it’s been four months since the last vaccination.

If you have never received a COVID shot, Van Hulzen said you no longer have to get two doses. Now you only need one if you get the Moderna or Pfizer shot. The Novavax shot however is still a two dose series.
