It was a dominant evening for the Pella soccer teams Tuesday in sound victories over Grinnell. The #5 in 2A Dutch girls won by mercy rule 10-0 in the 2nd half against the Tigers, while the boys were 9-0 winners on senior night.

On the road, it was Claire Smock who found the net with the most frequency, scoring six times — three in each half, to pace the Pella attack. Abby Warner added a hat trick of her own and Anneka Stoltzfus scored the other tally. The Dutch ended the game with 23:17 remaining, and improve to 11-2 on the season.

Pella celebrated the Class of ’23 in style in the boys matchup, with five of their seven seniors scoring in the effort by goal or assist. Logan Solomon had four of those goals, with Isaac Kalkwarf and Camden Bryngelson also tallying goals, as did foreign exchange student Markus Ljungberg. Kellen Smith added an assist. The Dutch boys have now won four in a row to improve to 8-5. Both of the soccer teams are in action Saturday in a varsity doubleheader.

The postseason continues for the Pella boys golf team as they head to the Class 3A golf sectional in Washington. The Dutch placed 6th in the deep Little Hawkeye Conference tournament Monday. Pella’s girls tennis team is in the regional individual tournament today at Pella Christian High School. Emily Blom will try to become a three-time singles state qualifier. Additionally, the Pella boys tennis team will take on Dowling this afternoon in a late-season tune-up for the upcoming team tournament that begins on Friday.
