The Knoxville Recreation Center will soon be running a program titled, “Walk A Million Steps.”

It is a program that runs from Memorial Day, May 29th through Labor Day, September 4th. According to Knoxville Recreation Center Wellness Supervisor, Angie Jones, it’s 99 days in length and the goal is to walk One Million Steps, which is an average of 10,101 steps per day.

Jones tells KNIA/KRLS News about the event, “It’s pretty cool because a lot of people already walk. This gives you some accountability and some functionality to your body that helps you just gain better strength, better core, better endurance and it’s really pretty easy.”

Jones adds that the 10,101 steps per day isn’t as scary as it sounds. Adding a little bit extra to your day everyday adds up.

Registration is currently open and the cost is $15 for recreation members and $20 for non-members. For those who complete the goal by September 5 they will receive a free t-shirt and be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $100 recreation center gift certificate.

For more information call the recreation center and ask for Angie or Jacey.
