The class 1A track and field squads will head to the State Qualifying Meets today, and the Melcher-Dallas Saints hope to keep marching to the Blue Oval after tonight’s State Qualifier at BGM. The boys have several individuals and relays that have a shot at the State Meet. Logan Godfrey has the 2nd best distance in the long jump at 20-2 inches, Godfrey also is 3rd in the high jump with a best height of 6/1. While 4th in the 110 hurdles, Owen Suntken is just a few tenths off the top time and he is also among the shuttle hurdle relay team that is 3rd. Both Godfrey and Suntken tell KNIA Sports they are confident that early season struggles have worked themselves out and they can return to the Blue Oval.
Owen: “Just the 110 highs not were I want to be now, but I’ll get there.”
Logan: “I’ve started long jump this year, I haven’t done it since 7th grade, and won a few meets this year, and I’m getting better at it.”
While it will be tough from the Saints girls to qualify for an event, It is not out of the question for thrower Gabby Overgaard to make a run for state. She is 3rd in the shot put at a season best 34-11 inches, less than two feet off of the top seed and she is 4th in the discus.
