Another day, another round of state qualifiers for the green and white as the spring sports season hits the back stretch for athletes. The top-ranked in 1A Pella boys tennis team made it back to the final eight for the ninth time since 2013 by defeating Maharishi 5-0 at Central College Wednesday. The drama for the Dutch came at #2 singles, where Joshua Roozeboom battled back from down 4-3 in set one to win that 7-5, and for Cashen Thompson, who held off a strong charge in #3 singles in a set two tiebreaker to send the team to the quarterfinals. Roozeboom and Cameron Rowe are featured on today’s Let’s Talk Pella. Pella’s singles and doubles state qualifiers play in that tournament next week, while the quarterfinals for teams resume on May 31st in Iowa City.

Pella’s Karsyn Lyons made it a repeat trip to the state girls golf tournament as an individual Wednesday, as the Dutch girls were 16 strokes away from state in the regional tournament in Oskaloosa. Lyons placed 6th as an individual to earn back-to-back bids to the final meet of the year, where she finished in a t-28th in 2022. Pella placed 3rd with a team score of 368, with Emerson Lee tying for 7th as an individual at 89 and Kennedy Van Vark placing 11th among individuals at 91. The 3A State Golf tournament is next Thursday and Friday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
