Seven innings weren’t enough for the Pella baseball team in a busy week, where they pulled out in a 4-3 win Wednesday in the 8th inning over Centerville. Senior Jack Howard hit the walk off winner in the extra frame. The Dutch scored three runs in the bottom of the 2nd, only to watch Centerville score three of their own in the top of the 3rd. The game remained scoreless until the 8th, when Joe Bokhoven and Caleb Stewart hit back to back singles to lead off the inning. Kellan Shull laid down a sacrifice bunt and caught the Big Reds with nobody covering first base for another single. That led to Jack Howard’s deep blast into left center for the game winning hit.
Howard started the game on the mound and pitched four solid innings, allowing three unearned runs in the 3rd. Kellan Shull came on in relief and pitched four innings, giving up just one hit and no runs. Bokhoven and Shull finished the night with two hits and Leyton Bethards had a 3-run single in the 2nd inning.
Pella’s debut broadcast is this evening as they host Knoxville. Derek Cardwell and Ryan Doschadis will call the action on 92.1 KRLS, with pregame starting at 7 p.m.
