For the second season in a row, the state track and field meet clashed on the calendar with the annual commencement ceremony at Pella High School. Instead of rushing back to Pella or delaying the main event at Central College, for the past two years, graduating state qualifying athletes received the chance to earn their diploma at the famous Blue Oval instead. With assistance from the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, and Drake University personnel, Pella Activities Director Matt Fouch and Pella School Board Member Elisa Klahsen ensured the Dutch members of the Class of ’23 received their diplomas Friday night. Every two years, the Class 2A/3A session of the state track and field meet falls in the late afternoon and evening.
