With the new construction on Lake Ahquabi and Lake Ahquabi State Park, the campground will have a new look when it opens to the public this spring. Parks Supervisor Chad Kelchen tells KNIA News those who have camped in the park before will have a much better experience.

“What you’ll see is a fresh start at the campground. We had multiple, multiple trees affected by the Emerald Ash Borer that had to come out. So the campground will look completely different, a lot of shade trees had to be removed either by the construction or the Emerald Ash Borer. But we can expect a better campground layout and experience, and the trees will come with time. The lake will fill sometime this spring depending on rainfall and runoff.”

The re-opening of the lake and campground is dependent on the amount of rain received this spring/summer. The concessionaire will reopen when the lake is full or there is enough water available. The DNR anticipates the campground, lodge and beach shelter to reopen mid June of 2023.
