The PCM boys soccer team’s season came to an end Monday night with a 6-1 loss in the Class 1A Substate 7 semifinals against Class 1A #3 ranked Des Moines Christian, while the Mustangs softball team opened their season with a dominant 19-0 run-rule win against Nevada.
Against the ranked Lions, the PCM soccer team fell behind early and couldn’t make up the difference. Des Moines Christian netted three goals in the first half, which was enough to drop the Mustangs to 4-13 on the season. PCM would get a goal back in the second half, but three more goals for the Lions ended the Mustangs season.
Extending their winning streak against Nevada to five-games, it didn’t take long for the PCM softball team to find their rhythm offensively in the three-inning win. Needing just two frames at the plate, the Mustangs exploded for 19 runs on 12 hits. Paige Steenhoek, Joslin Briles, Skylar Burns and Tori Lindsay each went perfect at the dish, combining to go 7-for-7 with 10 RBI’s. Burns added on PCM’s first home run on the season, and Rylee Parsons secured the win in the circle by allowing just three hits and striking out five.
The PCM softball team opens the season with a 1-0 record overall and in the Heart of Iowa Conference, and they return to the diamond tonight for a non-conference showdown with Grinnell.
