The Indianola Fire Department has passed along ways to stay as safe as possible during the summer heat. Three heat related issues are heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Treating cramps and exhaustion involve getting a person into a cool, indoor area and providing fluids to cool them down as fast as possible and stop dehydration. Heat stroke is a life-threatening situation that may require hospitalization, which has symptoms that include nausea and confusion, and requires a call to paramedics. Emergency departments recommend that if there are any questions if someone is dealing with a heat-related illness, do not hesitate to call 911.
