ORIGINAL POST: Several area emergency agencies are searching for a person they believe to have drowned at Lake Red Rock. The initial response occurred Saturday evening at approximately 7 p.m. at Whitebreast Beach, and according to Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt, a group of individuals tried to swim out to a rock island, and all but one returned to shore.
“Last night, we conducted search and rescue operations for an individual that was reported to have went under the water out at the Whitebreast Beach area,” he says. “Some individuals were trying to swim to a rock island that’s out and off the shoreline here by a couple hundred yards, and it sounds like four of the individuals were able to make it to shore, and one was not.”
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Iowa DNR, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Knoxville Township Rural Fire, the Pella Rural Fire Department, and Pleasantville Fire. The public is asked to avoid the area and allow crews to conduct the search.
