Pioneer Day has been going on for over 25 years. The 2023 event will be held at the Marion County Park at the Marion County Historical Village.
Dan Carlson is helping put the event on and said it is a full day. The event starts with the scouts raising the flag at 8 a.m. Also at 8 will be a pancake and sausage breakfast put on by the Knights of Columbus.
One of the top musical groups for the day is “The Bluegrass Blondies” starting at 1 p.m. June 10. The group consists of members Taylor (Amos) Robinson who plays guitar, sings lead, alto, soprano and high baritone. Bethany Amos plays mandolin, fiddle, dobro, guitar, jazz bass and piano as well as singing lead soprano and baritone.
Hallie (Amos) Polson plays fiddle, mandolin and guitar. She sings lead, soprano,and baritone. Scott Amos is a BMAI 2017 Banjo Player of the Year and Iowa Bluegrass Hall of Fame Inductee. He plays banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, dobro and bass and is a consultant for the group.
Dawn Amos is the producer of the group. Dawn plays bass and sings with the Bluegrass Blondies. The Blondies were the 2018 BMAI Band of the Year.
The Marion County Historical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Pioneer Day will be held in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
