The Indianola City Council approved an ordinance at their meeting last week regarding parking on the square during snow events and the hours the public works department will have to plow the snow on the square. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the ordinance needed to be updated after the streetscape changed how snow was cleared.

‘Being able to remove the snow from the square is actually quite time intensive, and it’s even more so now that we have the streetscape improvement features to the square. It takes our crews time to get in there, and be able to work with people. Some of the businesses are open 24 hours a day, and so we have to work with the patrons of those businesses to move their vehicles while we are cleaning up. So this ordinance really allows for the cleanup of snow from between 10pm and 7am during the winter period.”

The snow cleanup time on the square was previously 2-5am. To listen to the full interview, go to this story on KNIAKRLS.com.
