indianola-8

The Indianola baseball and softball teams swept Oskaloosa on the road Monday evening, baseball winning 7-5 in nine innings and softball dominating 8-0.

The Indians baseball team fell behind early, giving up five runs in the first three innings, but Bennett Brueck came on in relief to get the Indians out of a jam, as the offense took over and forced extras. Kaden Ritchie was dominant on the mound in relief, going 4 ⅔ innings only giving up two strikeouts to earn the victory, while Luke Rockhold and Andrew DeWall each went 2-4 at the plate as Indianola scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to hold on for the win.

The Indianola softball team led from start to finish, as Izzie Benge threw a 1-hitter into the seventh inning. Indianola scored a run in the first on an error, then added three more in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take control that included a Dana Blake double, a Kiley Kindelspire homerun, and a Benge 2-RBI single. Benge went 3-4 at the plate and picked up the win in the circle.

The baseball team improves to 14-7 and 6-3 in the conference, softball is now 15-5 and 8-1. Baseball takes tonight off, while the softball squad hosts Ankeny in a non-conference matchup.
