The bats for Pella were relentless in a 13-6 win over Grinnell for the baseball team Monday, while the softball team fought for an upset over the #15 in 3A Tigers, but fell in the 8th inning 5-4.
Pella racked up twelve hits and six walks, scoring in five of seven innings on the baseball diamond — including a seven-run sixth that put the game out of reach. Lake Cowman turned a tough Friday vs. Pella Christian on its head, going three-for-three at the plate with home run, while Jack Howard, Nathan Carey, and Caleb Stewart each had two hits. Nathan Vande Lune gave up two runs in five innings on the mound to earn the win. Pella is now 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and host Fairfield this evening for non-league competition.
The softball girls took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd inning and kept an advantage until the bottom of the 6th. Ultimately, Grinnell got two runners on with no outs in the 8th and were victorious with a squeeze play. Lucy Carlson, Katie Scheckel, and Elah Heimstra each had a pair of hits in the effort. Pella falls to 5-11 overall and 1-7 against league foes; they will host Knoxville this evening for the Red Rock Rivalry renewed. Coverage begins at 6:45 this evening on 92.1 KRLS.
