The PCM softball team did just enough Tuesday night to pull out a narrow 2-1 road win over East Marshall, while the Mustangs baseball team struggled in a 12-0 road loss at Class 1A #4 ranked Lynnville-Sully.
The PCM softball team got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the first inning, only for East Marshall to answer with a run in the bottom of the frame. The two teams held each other scoreless for the next two frames before PCM broke through with a run in the top of the fourth and held on to that 2-1 advantage the rest of the way to improve to 8-5 on the season. Riley Johannes went 2-for-4 on the night at the plate, while Paige Steenhoek and Ella Schendel batted in the two runs in the win. Rylee Parsons struck out four, while allowing six hits and a walk to pick up the complete game win in the circle.
The PCM baseball team found themselves in an early hole against the ranked Hawks and couldn’t climb out of it as they fell to 8-7 overall on the season. Lynnville-Sully batted around in the bottom of the first inning to take a 7-0 lead. The Hawks would add a run in the second inning, two runs in the third, and another run in the fourth before ending the game in the fifth. Nick Farver was the lone Mustang to reach base two times in the contest, recording two walks. Gavin Fenton and Gabe Hobbs posted the lone hits in the game for PCM, with Fenton posting a third inning double and Hobbs getting a single in the fourth inning.
The Mustangs baseball and softball teams return home tonight for their third games in as many days, hosting Greene County for single Heart of Iowa Conference contests at 7:30 p.m.
