Drought continues to spread across south central Iowa and most of the state. According to U.S. Drought Monitor Report, moderate drought has spread further into southeast Marion County and most of Mahaska County, while severe drought is forming in Lucas and Monroe Counties. The rest of the region is abnormally dry. Chances for rain return this weekend, especially Saturday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
