Traveling to Albia for non-conference action, the PCM baseball team used a big third inning offensively to nab a 15-10 road victory over the Blue Demons Thursday night.
Albia plated two runs in the first two innings to take a 2-1 lead, but the Mustangs opened the floodgates at the plate in the top of the third. PCM sent 13 hitters to the plate in the third frame, scoring nine runs on two hits, five walks, two errors, and a hit by pitch. The Mustangs continued to pour it on, extending their lead to 14-3 after the top of the fifth inning. The Blue Demons scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and five times in the seventh to get to 10 runs, but PCM added their 15th run of the night in the top of the seventh to improve to 10-8 overall. Easton Webb highlighted a 3-for-5 night at the plate with a third inning grand slam, while Gavin Fenton led off the game with a solo homer to spark a 2-for-3 night at the dish.
The PCM baseball team will play again tonight in a 7:30 p.m. non-conference home game against Bondurant-Farrar. After having Thursday night off, the Mustangs softball team returns to action this evening to host Pleasantville at 7:30 p.m.
