Marion County Assessor Kelli Kingrey said the regular Homestead Credit is available, which anyone can apply for if you own and live in a home and it’s your primary residence at least six months out of the year. Kingery tells KNIA/KRLS the credit is the amount that comes off the bottom of your taxes.

Kingrey says, “This new law that has passed, is actually a Homestead Exemption, which is different from a credit. What it does, it exempts out a certain amount of taxable value.”

At this point people are being encouraged to call the Assessor’s Office at the courthouse. There is a form to fill out and it must be done by July 1st.

The number at the Assessor’s Office is 641-828-2215. Call with any questions concerning the new law. The Assessor’s Office will also assist people to fill out the new Homestead Exemption form as well.
