A chance to clinch the South Central Conference title outright is in front of the class 3A #4 Knoxville Baseball Squad, while the softball Panthers look to stay within striking distance of their conference title dreams tonight on Panther Drive. The baseball squad needs to win one of two games tonight against Centerville in a varsity double header that starts at 5:30. Knoxville is 16-0 and is three games up on the Big Reds with five to play. Coach Turner Devore expects his team to get a challenge, especially coming off of a lackluster win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Tuesday.
Devore: “They played us tough down there, it was kind of like tonight. We have to do a better job and get ready to play.”
Across the way, the softball squad looks to keep their hopes for a conference title against Centerville. Knoxville comes in at 7-3 after beating EBF on Tuesday and are in 3rd place, two games out of first to league leader Davis County. The Panthers would need to win out, and hope the Mustangs drop at least two games of their final three. Coach Carla Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the girls have done a good job of moving on after a win or loss.
Smith: “It really just comes down to our leadership. They’ve done a great job of turning the page. We just have to be ready and stay ready.”
The softball contest will be on 95.3 KNIA starting at 7:15.
