An offensive flurry was too much to handle for the Pella baseball team in a 14-5 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes Wednesday night, as heard live on the KRLS3 stream, while one big inning was the difference in the softball team’s upset bid of the #2 in 4A Mustangs, falling 6-2.

A three-run top of the 1st set the tone on the baseball diamond, and while the Dutch were able to close the game to 6-4 in the bottom of the 2nd, the Mustangs were relentless at the plate, scoring four back in the top of the third. DCG ended up with multiple runs scored in the first four frames. Isaiah Kettler ended up 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles in the contest.

Pella’s softball team took a lead behind an Ava Curry home run in the 3rd inning. But the #2 in 4A Mustangs countered with a four-run fifth to take control, and added a sixth run to ensure victory late. Kamryn Long added two hits in the effort.

The Pella baseball team falls to 15-10 overall and 9-6 against league competition, while the softball team is 8-16 and 3-12 vs. league opponents; both are off until a doubleheader at home against Oskaloosa on Friday.
