The Norwalk summer sports teams combined to go 0-3 on the diamond Friday night. The Warrior softball team lost a 3-2 heartbreaker vs. West Des Moines Valley and the baseball squad was swept by Dallas Center-Grimes in a doubleheader 11-3 and 10-3. All three games were played in Norwalk.

Friday’s softball game was decided in the sixth inning. Valley’s Claire Long hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the sixth while Norwalk stranded the bases loaded in the home half of the inning. Olivia Dougherty pitched a two-hitter in defeat for the Class 4A fifth-ranked Warriors, walking three batters and striking out seven. At the plate, Lauren Black hit a double, Jaylynn Brandt had an RBI single, and Nyah Hulbert and Zadie Wadle also had hits.

Norwalk finishes the week at 21-6 overall and remains tied for first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Class 5A sixth-ranked Tigers improved to 23-7.

On the baseball diamond, Norwalk was unable to slow down the bats of the Class 4A ninth-ranked Mustangs in either game, falling to 7-19 overall and 5-12 in the Little Hawkeye. DC-G, which is tied for first place with Indianola at 14-3 in conference play, improved to 21-6 overall.

Both Norwalk squads return to action on Monday night, hosting Grinnell.
