The Class 2A #10 Pleasantville baseball team complete the season sweep of Des Moines Christian Monday night with a 6-4 victory on Strike Out Cancer Night, while the Trojans softball team earned a series split against the Lions with an 8-2 win.
After Des Moines Christian scored three runs in the top of the first inning on the baseball diamond, Pleasantville answered six singles in the bottom of the second to score all six of their runs. The Trojans held that 6-3 advantage until the sixth inning when the Lions plated a single run but held on to improve 23-6 overall on the season and 14-3 in the West Central Conference. Dylan Aldrich recorded six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work to pick up the win on the bump, while Edwin Escalante picked up three strikeouts in 1.1 innings to earn the save.
The Pleasantville softball team led almost wire-to-wire against Des Moines Christian, only allowing a tie in the top of the third inning before reclaiming the lead in the bottom of the frame and holding on the rest of the way. Newly crowned Marion County Fair Queen Carly Cox powered the Trojans offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs on the night, while also striking out three and allowing just three hits in four innings in the circle. With the win, Pleasantville softball improved to 10-17 overall and 9-8 in the conference.
The Trojans summer sports teams are back at home tonight, hosting Ogden in West Central Conference doubleheaders. The baseball twinbill begins at 5 p.m. and the softball doubleheader begins at 5:30 p.m.
