The PCM softball team completed the season sweep over South Hamilton with a 10-0 five-inning win Wednesday night, while the Mustangs baseball team fell to the Hawks 8-5.

The offense came out firing on all cylinders for the PCM softball team in their run-rule win, scoring three runs in the first inning, a run in the second, and six runs in the fourth. Joslin Briles capped off the blowout win with a grand slam in the fourth inning, while Paige Steenhoek and Sidney Shaver combined to go 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base. Rylee Parsons pitched her fourth shutout win of the season and second against South Hamilton, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out four. With the win, PCM softball improved to 15-8 overall on the season and 10-4 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.

The Mustangs baseball squad grabbed a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Hawks responded with a four-run second inning. After three scoreless frames, South Hamilton pushed their advantage to 8-1 with four more runs in the top of the sixth. PCM answered with a four-run bottom of the sixth but couldn’t find the final four runs needed to win the game. The Mustangs outhit the Hawks in the loss 9-5, but three errors and six runners left on base came back to haunt them as they fell to 12-14 overall and 10-5 in the conference.

The PCM softball team returns to the diamond tonight for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference road game at BCLUW. The Mustangs baseball team is off until the opening round of districts on Saturday, when they take on Colfax-Mingo at Des Moines Christian.
