The Indianola softball team had a slow start in their victory over Newton Thursday night in their Little Hawkeye Conference finale, but the offense exploded for a 12-1 victory in five innings.
The Indians and Cardinals were scoreless until the fourth inning when they pushed across two runs, only for the Cardinals to answer in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1. The offense exploded from then on, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the inning that included a Kiley Kindelspire grand slam. Kindelspire ended the game with a pair of hits and five RBI’s, Kyra Robins drove in two runs, and Izzy Sloan had a pair of hits and got the win in the circle.
The Indians improve to 23-10 and end the conference season with a 16-5 record and a third place finish. The Indians baseball team takes on Newton tonight, needing a win and a Dallas Center-Grimes loss on Monday to claim a conference title.
