The summer teams from Pella High School ended the regular season Monday night with a pair of victories; the softball girls were 15-6 winners over Perry, while the baseball boys earned a 9-1 win over Washington.
On the road west, the Dutch racked up 18 baserunners and scored runs in the first four innings. Pella was a two-out Perry rally away from a five-inning win. Ava Curry was 4-for-4 with two home runs, Kamryn Long was 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs batted in, Katie Scheckel’s lone hit left the park, and Katie Pollock added a 2-for-4 night. Pella’s softball team finishes the regular calendar at 14-18.
Pella put pressure on the Demons throughout with much-improved hitting after a slump last week, scoring runs in multiple innings. Isaiah Kettler finished with a triple and three Dutch runs batted in, and Caleb Stewart pitched three scoreless innings and drove in two runs with a double at the plate. Pella ends the regular season at 19-14.
The postseason begins after the holiday for both programs at home; the Pella softball team hosts Ballard this Thursday at 7 p.m., while baseball welcomes Grinnell for a 4th matchup between the schools on Friday, also starting at 7 p.m. Both Dutch postseason games can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS and viewed on Pella Dutch Live.
