The postseason begins tonight for the girls of summer from Pella, and they will get to play at their home venue one last time. The Dutch welcome Ballard for the Class 4A Regional opener, with the winner taking on Bondurant-Farrar on Saturday. Hailing from the Raccoon River Conference, the Bombers are 9-13 overall and tied for 6th in their league. Junior Brooklyn Baumgardner has racked up the majority of innings pitched for Ballard this summer, tallying 108 1/3 and striking out 94, with a 3.30 ERA. What the Bombers lack for in exceptional hitters is depth — seven of their regulars in the lineup hit better than the team’s average of .280. Pella isn’t counting out Ballard either — the road team pushed their conference rivals and #2 in 4A North Polk to eight innings on Monday night. Coverage of Dutch postseason softball begins at 6:45 this evening on 92.1 KRLS and Pella Dutch Live.
