The class 3A #7 Knoxville baseball Squad has not been to the State Tournament since 2010. That could change tonight with a win over Ballard as the Panthers and Bombers battle for a spot at State in Iowa City on Panther Drive. The two teams played back on May 31st with the Panthers defeating Ballard 6-4. In that game, Trenton Kingery had two home runs including a three run blast to put Knoxville up for good in the 3rd inning and Koby Higginbotham got the win in relief. Both teams are different from that game back at the end of May. The Bombers ended up finishing 3rd in the Raccoon River Conference and hold a 20-10 record. Panthers Coach Turner Devore relishes the chance to play at home for a state tournament berth knowing his team gets the last at bat.
Devore: “It’s huge you get the last at bat, and you get to play in front of this crowd. It’s insane how many people were here tonight and I hope they come out on Wednesday.”
Coverage from Panther Drive will begin at 6:40 with the first pitch at 7:00 on 95.3 KNIA.
