The Iowa Legislature was called into a special session earlier this week by Governor Reynolds, passing a six-week abortion ban after the Iowa Supreme Court declined to reinstate a previous ban passed by the legislature. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News he voted in approval of the bill after hours of debate, and says despite recent polls coming out that stated near 60% of Iowans supported legal abortion in all or most cases, the results of the 2022 election say otherwise.

“To me, the election is the poll that counts the most. You can put out all kinds of polling, depending on your question and change the wording around and so on. But when a whole statewide ticket of pro-life Republicans got elected by pretty good margins, and the Governor got re-elected in a landslide, and she was very clear she was supporting this. I think the election is the thing that counts the most.”

Governor Reynolds signed the bill into law Friday.
