The Norwalk softball team is the number four seed in the Class 4A bracket for next week’s State Tournament in Fort Dodge, and the Warriors rank among the best in several statistical categories on the season.
Norwalk leads the eight-team 4A field with 60 doubles and 122 walks offensively. From a pitching standpoint, the Warriors rank first with 312 strikeouts. They also rank second in the field with a .197 opponent’s batting average, a 2.07 earned run average, a .963 fielding percentage, and 20 home runs. They are third in slugging percentage at .415.
Third-seeded Fort Dodge leads the 4A bracket with 300 runs scored, a run differential of +219 and an on-base percentage of .417. They also lead the way with a 1.99 ERA and a .178 opponent’s batting average. Eighth-seeded North Scott may also be a tough out, leading the field with 358 hits, a team batting average of .352, 29 home runs and a .485 slugging percentage.
Carlisle has the most stolen bases with 176 and the top fielding percentage at .969. Western Dubuque, which faces Norwalk in the first round, leads the field with 13 triples.
Monday’s Class 4A state quarterfinal matchups are as follows.
3:00 p.m. – #2 Carlisle (30-6) vs. #7 Winterset (25-12)
3:30 p.m. – #3 Fort Dodge (31-9) vs. #6 ADM (24-12)
5:00 p.m. – #1 North Polk (30-4) vs. #8 North Scott (26-11)
5:30 p.m. – #4 Norwalk (31-9) vs. #5 Western Dubuque (29-9)
