The Knoxville City Council adopted an ordinance amending the current ambulance code for the city at their meeting Monday Night.
The current city code was brief regarding ambulance services in the city limits, which led to the code being reviewed along with other cities’ ambulance service requirements. The council wanted to include those requirements in a new ordinance after taking a closer look. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery said these changes will set a standard if a private ambulance service wants to come to Knoxville.
“This new ordinance will provide an outline of standards for EMS services within the city limits. It is reflective of what our current services are that we provide and if any other services or companies wanted to come into the city limits such as a private ambulance service, they will have to abide by those same standards that are outlined in the code.”
The new ordinance passed unanimously at the city council meeting.
