Rotary Club of Knoxville’s motto of Service Above Self is shown through many different aspects in the community.
Rotary is a worldwide organization that has a local chapter in Knoxville, which is active in volunteer work throughout the community. Rotary provides volunteers who give their time, money and other resources they might have to work toward beautification projects or to raise money for world wide causes like ending polio or preventing human trafficking.
The Rotary Club of Knoxville also has local goals, which include providing scholarships for high school students along with cleaning up parks and highways. Rotary Club Co-President Jake Hughes says Rotary’s goal of service above self is evident by just looking around the community.
“People can usually see the Rotary goal of service above self by just taking a look around the town. There has been quite a few of projects that rotary has been involved in so if you see the gazebo on the courthouse square or Auld Park or the avenue of flags that go up throughout the year along the highway 14 corridor those are all projects that are maintained and monetarily sponsored by Rotary.”
Rotary’s largest fundraiser of the year is their pancake breakfast, which starts on August 9th and will last four days.
