The Indianola Wellness Campus is fully operational and in Phase 1 of a three-phase plan as the City of Indianola is transitioning the facility that was formerly run by the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. Executive Director Heather Hulen tells KNIA News the continuity of staff and membership is what has helped the first few weeks be so successful. Hulen said of the 120 staff at the facility, 99 of them transferred to being city employees, with the majority of those not transferring being seasonal student workers. Hulen also said the majority of the highest-user membership was retained.

“We are really excited because we had a goal to have 80% of our highest unit membership over, and our highest membership is always in February each year. We had about 1800 at that point, so 80% would be 1300, and we transferred over with 1301, which was pretty exciting for us.”

Hulen said if you were a member of the YMCA and want to transfer over, you can visit the facility and they will be happy to help you out. To listen to the full interview, click below.
