The Indianola Police Department presented information at the Warren County Health and Safety Fair earlier this week regarding scams that target the elderly and vulnerable in the area. Lt. Justin Keller tells KNIA News there are many scams, many of them sourced from overseas, and many in the community have been targeted and fallen for some of the well-crafted schemes, and if you do fall victim or feel like you have been targeted, you should call the department immediately.

“We don’t mind getting those phone calls. If you are ever questioning or wondering, feel free to give us a call on the front end. Because oftentimes once that transaction has gone through, once you’ve sent the money, there is not a lot we can do about it as a law enforcement agency. A lot of these scams are originating overseas, and once that money goes overseas it is very difficult for us to get that money back. So if you are ever wondering or questioning, give us a call. If it is reference banking, give your bank a call, and make that phone call before you go through with any sort of transaction.”

Lt. Keller also said any official communication from the government or police will not be over the phone asking for money
