With the season starting later this week, the Pella Christian football team is preparing for a difficult non-district schedule.

The Eagles kick-off the season against a Des Moines Christian squad that went 4-5 last season and qualified for the Class 2A playoffs. Pella Christian’s first game on their brand new turf in week two, brings PCM to town, after they went 5-4 and also qualified for the Class 2A playoffs last year. Following those games, the Eagles travel to Grundy Center to square off with the reigning Class A Champions that went 13-0. In addition to winning a State Title last fall, the Trojans never scored fewer than 20 points in a game and allowed more than eight points just once. With three challenging games right out of the gate, Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski believes that his team will be well-tested and poised to contend for the Class 1A District 6 title.

“I think if we play our cards right, we can win the district being undefeated district champs and get number one seed. But we also know we going to have to go out and play well five weeks in a row in order to do that, because it’s a tough district. And so I think our preseason camp is building us up for our non-district schedule and I hope our non-district schedule builds us up and prepares us for our district schedule.”

Pella Christian’s season opener at Des Moines Christian on Friday night can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m.
