The Pella volleyball team begins their competitive journey tonight on the long road southeast to Fairfield. This is a new beginning for the Dutch, as first year head coach Sam Sheldon aims to push the team back into the elite of Class 4A and the top of the Little Hawkeye Conference. Sheldon is hopeful to have a balanced approach to their attack all season, but especially as they work to build the current roster together early in the campaign.
Pella has dominated Fairfield in their sporadic history of playing against each other — the Dutch won 3-0 last year and are 3-0 all-time against the Trojans. The home team has few returners from their Southeast Conference co-championship team, but senior setter Maddie Jones had 5.9 assists per set in 2022, and senior Addison Ferrel led the team with 37 aces.
The Dutch take on Fairfield on the road, with varsity at 7:15 this evening. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS and visit KNIAKRLS.com for scores, results, photos, and interviews from the 2023 Pella volleyball season.
