A heat wave continues through Thursday across south central Iowa.
An excessive heat warning is in place, which means conditions are not favorable for outdoor activities due to a combination of heat and humidity, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Jeff Zogg. Heat index values will approach and possibly top 110 degrees in the afternoon and evening hours, with actual temperatures likely to hit 100 degrees today through Thursday — which could break several records.
Knoxville records:
Tuesday 8/22 – Warmest High: 98 in 1948; Warmest Low: 76 in 1975
Wednesday 8/23 – Warmest High: 99 in 1975; Warmest Low: 78 in 1878
Thursday 8/24 – Warmest High: 104 in 1936; Warmest Low: 76 in 2021
The heat could impact the beginning of school and related activities for many districts if they do not have ample air conditioning. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for continuing coverage.
