The #2 in class 4A Indianola volleyball team defeated #6 in class 5A Ankeny Centennial 3-1 in their season opener Monday evening in a non-conference matchup. The Indians were dominant on the serve from the start, winning the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-19, after pulling away in both games early and surviving a Jaguar run in the middle. The third set went towards Ankeny Centennial winning 25-20 after the Indians lone slow start of the evening, but they would get back on track in the fourth to again get ahead early and end the contest on an ace after pulling away after it was close at 21-18.
Head coach Kent Halstead tells KNIA Sports Tori Runyan has been running the show for the program for a long time from the setter position, and he is able to trust his team more and more knowing that she is out there helping to lead the team.
The Indians improve to 1-0 on the season, and will next play in a quad at Southeast Polk on Thursday.
