The Indianola City Council approved a change to the process of selecting council-appointed nominees to the various boards and commissions that serve and advise the council. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the process began as a way to help encourage those in the community to apply to serve, without having their qualifications talked about in open council meetings. Reeves said the new process is more inviting for community members to dip their toe into public service, while still moving forward in an open and transparent way.

“We want to be completely open and transparent, but also providing those who want to put their names in to have some dignity. Not everybody wants to come and face the city council, or go to a closed session, or go through an interview process just to volunteer. The new process will have applications sent out to the entire council, they can share their opinions, and two randomly selected council members will select who will be voted on the agenda.”
