The PCM Mustangs open their season tonight at home against the Sigourney-Keota Cobras.
The Mustangs have several experienced pieces of their offense back from last season, including starting Quarterback Gavin VanGorp, Running Back Adrein Robbins, and the entire offensive line. The Mustang defense also has many experienced starters returning to help give the PCM defense much needed stops this season.
As the Mustangs have been working to beat the heat this week, they have also been working to prepare for a Sigourney-Keota offense that is exhausting in itself. The Cobras are famous for running the single wing offense, which was notably implemented by former coach Bob Howard.
The single wing consists of misdirection or deception football that can be compared to the modern day “wildcat” offense. Coach Greg Bonnett says they need to be ready for how successfully the Cobras execute this specific formation.
“Their guys get after it. The Sigourney guys really do. They know how to run that scheme in typical Sigourney-Keota fashion. Their kids execute it with physicality and speed and it’s pretty crisp. It’s neat to see.”
Tonight’s matchup will kick off at 7:30 pm and full play by play can be heard live at the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com starting at 6:30 this evening.
