Pella Regional Health Center has welcomed Board Certified Urogynecologist Maria D. Hernandez to the medical staff.

Dr. Hernandez has over 10 years of experience specializing in Urogynecology, the medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic disorders. Most recently she practiced in Illinois and prior to that she practiced in Carroll, Iowa. Dr. Hernandez speaks Spanish and is dual board certified in Gynecology and Urogynecology. She will provide care for females age 10 and older for issues such as menstrual issues, gynecologic pain, STD’s, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, UTI’s, overactive bladder/incontinence and more. Dr. Hernandez performs many different pelvic surgeries using robotic, laparoscopic, abdominal and vaginal techniques.

“I chose urogynecology because pelvic floor disorders are common and can negatively impact a woman’s life.” said Dr. Hernandez. “The treatments we offer, medical or surgical, are effective and help restore a woman’s lifestyle”

Hernandez earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Iowa City, Iowa. She completed residency at Phoenix Integrated Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Phoenix, AZ. She then completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland.

Hernandez is married and has three children. She enjoys working with her hands, and is an avid knitter and enjoys sewing. She can be found outdoors, gardening, cycling or hiking. She loves to travel and is proud to say she has been to 45 of the US states.
