The Pella Christian and PCM football teams will renew the Highway 163 rivalry tonight in the first game at the newly renovated P.C. Stadium.
Both teams are looking to build on the momentum of big wins in week one, after the Eagles defeated Des Moines Christian 49-35 and the Mustangs downed Sigourney Keota 22-15. In the all-time series between the two teams, Pella Christian holds an 8-7 advantage over PCM, and have won the last two matchups. While the Mustangs would like to even the series up tonight, head coach Greg Bonnett says his team’s mentality will remain the same.
“Our mentality is we don’t just want to win, we want to win with ease. And that’s never easy to do when you go play Pella Christian. I don’t care if you’re here or there or whatever. It’s never easy to do, winning with ease, but that’s what the best warriors do. Our thing is focusing on ourselves, and then going out there and just executing really, really good football.”
Eagles head coach Rich Kacmarynski said that while tonight won’t be an easy game for his team, he believes it is good for the sport and is excited for a hard fought contest.
“Games like this are good for you. It’s good for sport of football. PCM travels well we’ll have a great crowd tonight, we’ll have a good home crowd. So, this is what high school football is all about, two good teams going at it. I feel like it’ll be one of the better games in the state tonight. And so, hopefully we can do the little things tonight we need to do to be successful.”
