The Knoxville Police Department wants you to give them a call if you feel someone has attempted to scam you.
Marion County has seen a wide variety of scam attempts just over the last couple weeks including fraudulent checks, counterfeit $100 bills, and phone scams. Although it has been prevalent lately, this is something that happens year round and is not unique to Marion County.
The Knoxville Police Department warns that many scams will appear to come from entities you do business with or large businesses you are familiar with. Scams can come in many different forms but one of the most common attempts is with gift cards. People may call asking to purchase gift cards for large amounts of money and then give them the information.
If you believe someone is attempting to scam you or have been scammed, call your local police department. The Iowa Attorney General also takes reports of scams and relays that information to law enforcement. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller wants his department contacted if you do feel you are being scammed.
“If you think you are potentially being scammed or if you are certain you’ve been scammed, give us a call. Let us know.”
