Ricky Thornton Jr. took the white flag in 2nd place, and by the time he rounded the fourth turn he was the leader and won night one of the 19th Running of the Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals presented by Your Life Iowa on Thursday night. It appeared that Daulton Wilson was going to dominate and lead all 25 laps of the A-Main, however a yellow came out and bunched the field and fell into the clutches of Brandon Overton on the 22nd lap. Overton appeared to have the race in hand, but Thornton did a slider through one and two and drove to the win. Thornton has the points lead after night one with a total of 494 with Christopher Ferguson in second with 488. Tonight is night two and all drivers have the option of coming back and running tonight with the exact same format as Thursday night. The highest point total between the two nights will set the field for Saturday championship races.
