100+ Men on a Mission – Red Rock presented a $10,000 check to Crisis Canines of Midlands on Monday.
Crisis Canines of Midlands was founded by Justin and Rebecca Smith in 2022 after certifying K9 “Glory” as the second Crisis Response Therapy K9 in the state of Iowa. Justin is a critical care paramedic and battalion chief in the Knoxville Fire Department, while Rebecca is a veterinarian and co-owner of Midland Prairie Veterinary Services. Justin says that the organization’s purpose is to help individuals affected by or responding to crises and disasters.
“Essentially, we’re equipping canines and their handlers to be able to go on scene and help people with the emotional side of the stuff that we do in our industry. We do a lot with helping people feel better in the 911 call, put fires out, and other things. And sometimes we often forget about the emotional side of what’s happening, so these dogs are equipped with a first responder and they’re able to go right on scene in the aftermath of things and help people kind of adapt to what’s happened and just deal with the emotional side of the situation.”
100+ Men on a Mission – Red Rock will have another check presentation Wednesday at Lake View Camp in Tracy. Learn more about Crisis Canines of the Midlands here or hear more about the organization on Thursday’s In Touch with South Central Iowa.
