Led by Grady Sigrist’s runner-up round of 68, the Norwalk boys golfers posted a season-best score of 299 and placed sixth out of 10 teams in Monday’s Valley Classic at Willow Creek.

Sigrist scored an eagle-2 on hole number 4 and shot 3-under par on the day, finishing three strokes behind medalist Andrew Johannsen of Johnston. The Warriors’ 299 is 16 shots better than their previous best score of the season.

Three other Norwalk golfers scored in the 70s as Mason Johnson turned in a 76, followed by Lane Juergens with a 77 and Ian Lux 78.

Johnston won the tournament with an impressive total of 277 while Waukee Northwest had a 285 to beat out West Des Moines Valley for second place by one shot.

The Warriors are back in action Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., competing in the Southeast Polk Invite at Copper Creek.

Volleyball at Pella

The Norwalk volleyball team returns to Little Hawkeye Conference play tonight, traveling to Pella for a 7:15 varsity match against the Dutch. The Class 4A sixth-ranked Warriors are 13-10 overall and 2-1 in the LHC. Pella stands at 12-7 overall and 1-1 in league play.
