The Knoxville School Board approved an asbestos abatement proposal at their meeting on Monday night.
The proposal submitted by Site Services for $88,823 was approved and includes all asbestos abatement of the old Knoxville Middle School. This is something that has to occur before the demolition of the building. This project is included in the district’s five year facilities plan and will start shortly. Knoxville Community School District Business Manager Craig Mobley talked about the process of the asbestos removal.
“This is our first step in the demolition of the old middle school. First step is to get all of the asbestos in the building abated. We had originally signed an agreement with Impact 7G. They did all the testing to figure out what contained the asbestos but they also go out and get the bid for the project and they will do monitoring for asbestos for us.”
